Desktop Lock is an iPhone application that will allow you to remotely lock your Mac or Windows desktops.  It works in conjunction with a small application that runs on the desktop.  For Mac users, the computer is locked using Fast User Switching, effectively suspending the current user.  For Windows users, the computer is locked using the standard lock workstation function.

Requirements:

  • Currently, you must be on the same network to lock the desktop.  3G/Cellular data networks will be supported in the future.

Mac

  • OS X 10.6 or greater (works with OS X Lion) with Fast User Switching enabled
  • Desktop Lock Mac application (download links below)

Windows

  • Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7
  • .Net Framework 3.5
  • Bonjour for windows (Download here)
  • Desktop Lock application (download links below)
  • To run the Windows application in Vista / Win7 you will need to run the application with Administrator privileges

Once the desktop application is installed, open the desktop application and set a 4 digit numeric pin.  You can install the desktop app on as many computers as you like.  When you fire up the iPhone app, the configured desktops are automatically located and displayed in a table.  Tap the arrow icon to set the PIN for each desktop.  Now, from the main screen simply tap the desktop in the list, or tap the “Lock All Desktops” to lock each desktop automatically.

I’m running windows 7 and it will not run due to unable to find the Bonjour service. The service is loaded and running.

Check if the file dnssdX.dll exists in c:program filessystem32
If not, run the Bonjour Print Services for Windows install found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999

The Windows installer was updated for compatibility with Vista/Windows 7 and includes a few bug fixes. Also, .Net 4.0 is no longer required, 3.5 is the minimum version.

I also have this problem. I’m running Windows 7 64 bits. I installed the bonjour service and it is running as a service. Desktop lock says that bounjour is not running. I installed the version you linked to.

I’ve tested the Desktop Lock program on a clean install of Windows 7, 64bit and it worked well. There are a lot of people reporting issues with the latest version of bonjour for Windows (see apple discussions). Some people have had success by uninstalling the current version of bonjour and installing version 1.0.6:

Other than that, it’s possible that there is a firewall blocking UDP port 5353, but I think that’s not likely.
